You are being invited to participate in a study entitled “GM Centre/Global Spectrum Market Research”. The study looks at the local community, identifying some key components in order to better understand the marketplace GM Centre is looking to serve. We are interested in your participation because you are using a member of this community and we appreciate your input. The study is being conducted by John Forde, Hilary Park, William Balfour, Andrea McGrath, Elizabeth Healy(Students) and Zenfeng Ma & Steve Rose (Faculty). All are members of the University of Ontario I.T. community and you may contact them if you have further questions. (see below).

The purpose of this research project is to examine the local community in order to help GM Centre provide better entertainment selections. This study is important because it will have benefits for the research members interested in improving engagement, and it will have benefits for student learning.

We are inviting you to complete a questionnaire on your experiences and preferences. For the purpose of the this study, we are asking permission to retain data until the completion of our studies in April 2010. Your participation is completely voluntary and no identifying information is needed or asked for, as well this information will remain confidential. (No names or other identifying classifications will ever be included in the resulting data files). Indeed, no one, other than yourself and a professional researcher, will know if you have participated or not.

There are no known or anticipated risks to you by participating in this research, but the questionnaire does take about 10 minutes to complete.

If you agree to participate in this questionnaire, complete the questionnaire and submit to the researcher. Again, participating in the questionnaire is completely voluntary on your part. If you have completed and submitted a questionnaire, you can no longer withdraw your consent as it will be added to the anonymous data file.

Data will be kept secure and protected at all times. Primary data, including completed questionnaires, will be kept in a biometric-security enabled computer that only the researchers have access to. Data gathered for this research will only ever be reported as aggregate information. No names or other identifying information will ever be disclosed.

Results from this study will be used exclusively in our effort as UOIT students to complete our Capstone project. The results will also form part of a report to the GM Centre & Global Spectrum to support recommendations as to the selection of entertainment for the local community.

If you feel that you understand the above conditions of participation, please complete and submit the following questionnaire.

If you have any questions about this study, please feel free to contact the researchers at CapstoneC31@hotmail.com. In addition to being able to contact the researchers, you may verify the ethical approval of this study, or raise any concerns you might have, by contacting the Research Ethics Board of UOIT at compliance@uoit.ca
